5. The Fee

We will start with the most obvious one. The fee. Messi is under contract until 2018 when he will be 30-years old. There is a small, minuscule chance that he moves on at the end of that contract. But when I say minuscule, I mean minuscule.

Until that time, Messi has a £175 million release clause. In terms of Arsenal mathematics, that is five Alexis Sanchez’s, four Mesut Ozil’s or the sum of about seven or eight summer transfer windows combined.

If you still aren’t getting my drift, that means that Arsene Wenger, the Grinch of the transfer window, will not be calling the bank to take out a loan to put a down payment on the Argentine forward. The value of some players undoubtedly goes beyond a dollar amount, and Messi is one of them, but you still have to face what spending that much on one guy will do to your club in the long run.

Lionel Messi was just not destined to come to Arsenal. The chance was there when he was in his wonderkid phase. If Wenger did not get him then, he will not get him now.

On to the next roadblock and guess what, it is all about money too.
