Arteta has done exceptionally well to manage his squad in Jesus’ absence. Since his transfer, the forward has been transformative in the way Arsenal play. His ability to drop deep, technical quality and willingness to get the best out of other players led to the Gunners’ attack flourishing during the first half of the season.

While his influence in the earlier part of the campaign cannot be denied, his replacements have made sure his absence was not too keenly felt. Both Eddie Nketiah and Leandro Trossard have put in magnificent performances. In the games that he has eased into following his layoff, however, Jesus has reminded everyone of why he was the star signing of the summer.

The former Manchester City man continues to impress with his infectious energy and work rate. This quality will be crucial in the run-in. The Arsenal squad is still young and mental and physical fatigue can lead to drop-offs. Yet the psychological boost of an important member of the dressing room coming back from a serious injury, along with his attributes on the pitch, could be crucial in getting Arsenal over the line.
