Arsenal secured a 4-1 victory over Leeds United at the Emirates Stadium to mirror what fellow title rival Manchester City managed against Liverpool earlier in the day.
In what was a somewhat inconsistent first half from the Gunners, they struck first after Gabriel Jesus was brought down in the area. The Brazilian stepped up and slotted home his first goal since returning from injury.
Leeds also had its chances but couldn’t find the equalizer as they headed into the break down a goal.
The second half started superbly for Arsenal, and they put the game away in a brutal nine-minute period after halftime. A Ben White tap-in at the back post and a second to Jesus put the Gunners in complete control of the game.
The visitors grabbed one back via Rasmus Kristensen, whose shot deflected off Oleksander Zinchenko and past Aaron Ramsdale.
Arsenal added a fourth late on as Granit Xhaka was on the end of a superb ball from Martin Odegaard, and the Swiss international headed home his third goal in as many games for the club.
The game provided plenty of talking points. Here they are.
Gabriel Jesus returns in style
The Brazilian is finding his feet after being out for so long with his knee injury. Starting from the outset, Jesus looked to be back to his usual, menacing self.
The fact he got on the scoresheet twice will do his confidence a world of good and a fit and firing Jesus spells trouble for the rest of the league.
With nine games to go, Arsenal will need Jesus to continue to bang in the goals if the club is to claim its first Premier League title since 2004.

Xhaka the goalscoring midfielder??

Has there been a bigger turnaround of fortunes than Granit Xhaka? Just about out the door at the Emirates to now a goalscoring midfielder.

His header late on against Leeds was his third goal in as many games as he is showing he has a knack for finding the back of the net.

Status quo in title chase

Manchester City laid down a marker in the early game against Liverpool, defeating Jurgen Klopp’s side 4-1 at the Etihad. It heaps pressure on Arsenal to maintain the rage and hold the eight-point gap at the summit.

Well, anything City can do, Arsenal can as well. The Gunners defeated Leeds by the same scoreline as City did to Liverpool to keep the eight-point lead at the top of the table.

Any win from here on is like gold and brings Arsenal closer to that elusive title.
<!—pageview_candidate—>">
