Alexandre Lacazette’s time in North London is coming to an end after five years.
His time at the club will likely be a topic of polarisation within the fanbase with some arguing that he had a solid time, while others will suggest that he didn’t do enough for his price and expectations. Perhaps there’s some truth in both arguments.
Signed for a then club-record £47.5m fee back in 2017, the expectations placed upon the Frenchman were high as the Gunners sought to enter a new era with Unai Emery at the helm.
After scoring 27, 21, and 28 league goals in his last three seasons in France he would never break the 20-goal threshold in the Premier League as he notched 14, 13, ten, 13, and four-goal hauls during his time in north London. I think it would be hard to argue that Laca lived up to that price tag but he has also been a loyal servant to the club and as he said in his last video with the club “once a gunner, always a gunner.”
Alexandre Lacazette’s top 3 Arsenal moments
So as Laca says goodbye to the club, here are three of my favourite moments of his in an Arsenal shirt.
3. The Wolves comeback

This moment from February was one of my favourites of the season as Lacazette completed a late comeback against a defensively sound Wolves side.
Lacazette’s shot past Jose Sa sent the home faithful into a state of delirium after Arsenal came back from a goal behind to win 2-1 to snatch what felt like such a significant victory at the time.
Despite the goal being recorded as an own goal by Sa, the winner is still very much attributed to the Frenchman in the minds of Gooners. It was his last notable contribution for the club.

Another comeback goal from Laca. His shot while falling backward right after coming on in the North London Derby put Arsenal ahead 3-2 in what would ultimately be a thrilling 4-2 victory for the Gunners.

This match is my fondest memory from the Unai Emery era at Arsenal. It was a fantastic performance that I think encapsulates Emery’s thought process of “I’d rather win 5-4 than 1-0.”

My favourite image of Laca comes from the Europa League knockout match against Slavia Prague. The opponents were coming off a win against Rangers in the last round where one of their players racially abused Glen Kamara. At the beginning of the match, Arsenal took a knee as a reminder of ‘no room for racism’ while Arsenal’s captain knelt right in front of the home side.

Lacazette then capped it off with a brace to send them out of the competition. It was a very rewarding victory to see how the club responded to Kamara’s accusations.
<!—pageview_candidate—>">
