2. Sell, sell, sell!
Financial Fair Play enforcers will be sniffing around after Arsenal’s early summer spree. Some might be questioning how the Gunners can afford to splurge more than £200m on three players.
The club will have to balance their books somewhat, and this is expected to be the priority for the next couple of weeks. While the club will retain their most valuable assets, they do have a couple of disposable options that could garner rather big fees.
Kieran Tierney could be sold for upwards of £35m, while Folarin Balogun’s value has skyrocketed following a productive loan spell in Ligue 1. Thomas Partey has been linked with a move away also, while the Gunners are expected to earn an impressive £21.5m for Granit Xhaka’s sale to Bayer Leverkusen.
Arsenal must be as efficient selling as they’ve been buying this summer. When it’s all said and done, the club could earn upwards of £100m in sales.

1. Secure the futures of William Saliba & Reiss Nelson

Arsenal have done all the hard work on this front, with Saliba and Nelson set to be the next two players to have their contracts extended this year.

Gabriel Martinelli, Aaron Ramsdale, and Bukayo Saka have all committed their long-term futures to the Gunners, with the club reportedly reaching an agreement with Saliba’s camp at the end of the campaign following his superb debut season.

An official announcement is all that’s left on that front, and an announcement of Nelson’s new deal is imminent. The winger enjoyed a bright enough campaign but rarely featured in the Premier League.

However, the club opted to extend Nelson’s contract (by four years) instead of letting him depart on a free transfer.

3. Add depth before the start of Premier League season

Arsenal have added serious quality to their ranks already this summer and their squad has got deeper as a result. Mikel Arteta has also targeted players capable of performing various roles within his system.

If the Gunners don’t buy anyone else this summer, I’m sure many would be content with the business conducted, but that might leave the club vulnerable to enduring a similar fate to 2021/22 and 2022/23 when their lack of depth was eventually exposed.

The club’s return to the Champions League has increased the need for an even deeper squad, and there are a couple of positions where Arteta’s squad might be a little light. The manager wasn’t convinced by Bukayo Saka’s cover options last season, and no new additions have been signed out wide so far (although Havertz could possibly play wide right), and the potential exits of Kieran Tierney and Nuno Tavares will hasten the need for another left-back, even if Timber and Takehiro Tomiyasu are competent backup options.

The midfield currently appears to be a distinct area of strength following Rice’s arrival, but the club would be playing with fire if they opt to sell Partey along with Xhaka this summer. Overall, this will be an area to revisit closer to the summer deadline.
<!—pageview_candidate—>">
