Arteta’s decision to bring Saka and Martinelli on late
With Arsenal down 3-0 in the 66th minute, the game was as good as gone, so the general thought was to rest/leave the stars that were on the bench out of the game.
But in an odd situation, Arteta brought both Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli on in an attempt to salvage something from the game.
In truth, Arsenal never looked like beating West Ham, and Arteta might have missed a chance to give Saka and Martinelli a vital break. One could only imagine if either player picked up an injury.

Just minutes after the restart, the Hammers doubled their lead through Mohammed Kudus. Then Bowen got in on the act, scoring West Ham’s third before Martin Odegaard netted a late consolation.

It was a poor showing from Arsenal, and the game provided plenty of talking points; here they are.

Talking points from Arsenal’s 3-1 loss to West Ham

Aaron Ramsdale does little to convince Arteta of No. 1 status

Ramsdale was given his first start in what felt like forever, and it was seen as a chance to stake his claim to be re-installed as Arsenal’s No. 1 over David Raya – but he didn’t cover himself in glory.

He looked uncomfortable under pressure from West Ham’s forwards, but his short passing was a bright spot, but that won’t influence Arteta’s thinking.

Didn’t do his chances of staying in the team any good. Advantage Raya.

Kai Havertz again fails to impress

The German started brightly but faded just as fast as the game went on. His touch let him down whenever he got into a promising position.

Coming in for such a big fee, the German has to start producing, and nights like this don’t do him any favors in the eyes of the Gunners’ faithful.

Football is a results business, and so far, Havertz hasn’t been producing good enough results.
